Absorption & Attenuation Meters

The ac-9 plus (Wetlabs Inc.) measures two inherent optical properties of water at 9 wavelengths: total absorption (a) and beam attenuation (c). When fitted with a filter over the inlet tube of the absorption detector, the ac-9 measures absorption caused by dissolved material as well. Total scattering (b) is determined as b = c - a. The package also contains a SeaBird CTD, a Hydroscat-6 backscatter meter (measures backscattering at 6 wavelengths), an eco-VSF meter (provides an estimate of the volume scattering function) and an Eco-FL 3 channel fluorometer (measures fluorescence of colored dissolved organic material (CDOM), phycoerytherin (indicates cyanobacteria) and chlorophyll a (indicates general phytoplankton abundance).
