CICORE is funded by Congressional direction to the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) through the Coastal Observation Technology System (COTS) in the Coastal Services Center (CSC). Jointly with other coastal ocean observatories, CICORE comprises the core coastal observing infrastructure for the emerging Regional Associations of the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS).
